Having been helping couples achieve their perfect wedding day for over 30 years, Paul Deacon is aware of the highs and lows that accompany the planning process and has a wealth of tips to help ease the stress and ensure that you feel nothing but excitement as you approach your big day.

1. STARTEARLY Beginning to plan your wedding can feel overwhelming with too much to think about, too many things to take care of, and (of course) too many cake flavours to try! Start small, building up the elements of their wedding piece-by-piece. Setting yourself a goal for each month can help to ease some of the stress that surrounds the preparation process and give you confidence that everything will get done in time.

2. MAKE YOUR OWNTRADITIONS Whether it’s a family dance, curating handmade name places for every guest, or simply choosing a personal playlist, the more personalised elements you include, the more special your day will be. Don't spend time trying to craft the stereotypical 'perfect 'wedding, it doesn’t exist! Instead, think about what is most important to you as a couple and work out how to put this at the forefront of your wedding. As a Celebrant, Paul specialises in helping couples tailor their wedding to reflect their own unique love story.

3. REHEARSE YOURSPEECH Whether you can't wait to give your speech or would rather think about anything else, Paul advises starting to write your script at least 3 to 4weeks before the big day, noting down headings of various topics you want to cover and then expand on them - in his experience, sincere expressions of love are always well-received. Paul suggests reading it aloud each night before bed. In this way, it will become familiar, and you’ll find that you naturally remember large parts of it. If full-blown memorisation isn’t your thing, committing the first 3 sentences to memory will ensure that you start strong and quell nerves.

4. LEAVE NOTHING TOCHANCE At last, the big day has arrived! It’s time for you to relax and celebrate. Having looked after more than1,500 events, Paul knows how to make your special day run smoothly. To save time, he suggests placing personalised name cards for family, the best man, ushers, and bridesmaids on the first two rows of ceremony seats and putting the list of group photos on the back of these cards so that guests know when they will be involved.

5. ALL YOU NEED ISLOVE Ultimately, having personalised your wedding to the best of your ability, the only addition you need is love. You will have met your florist, caterers, camera and AV teams, MUA and DJ or musicians beforehand (but just in case your venue doesn't have them, bring your suppliers’ mobile contact details with you). Feel safe in the knowledge that, by putting trust in your suppliers to deliver, you can relax! Let your love for each other and for your family and friends shine from first look to last dance. This is what will make your wonderful celebration perfect.
